Courage.
We're always told how important courage is.
You need courage to pass your driving test. You need courage to start a company. You need courage to go for a job interview. You need courage to stand up for what you believe in.
But I've been watching a lot of people recently who, you could argue, preach about being courageous but don't actually practice what they preach. To be able to get to where you want to be, especially in business, you need to put every ounce of your courage on the table.
That includes the times where you don't want to do it. That includes the times when you're uninspired. In fact, it's perhaps even more important in those situations.
I've been on my self-development journey for over two years now and courage is by far the trait that stands out as a must to succeed. It is also the clearest trait that most people aren't willing to put into action. If this actually is the case, isn't that a huge worry for the future?
From my personal experience, courage has always come from one of two things.
One of those is confidence. Understanding what you're doing in its entirety as well as proving this over time builds confidence and you are therefore able to perform at higher levels through courage. If you have low self confidence at a specific task, your less likely to be courageous and follow through with it,
The second is your mission. If your mission is big enough to warrant a specific action, you will be courageous enough to pursue it because the alternative is much worse. I must admit, this is typically the reason why I use courage in my day to day life. Whether that is talking to someone new at a networking event or picking up the phone to talk to someone (which would previously make me feel uncomfortable), I push myself through courage to complete the task because my mission is more important than my fears.
The problem I see, especially in my generation, is that people are so full of fear which limits their courageousness. If this is the case, and obviously I can only speculate, then
we are in a very difficult period. We need leaders with courage as we are the future. Fear does nothing but hold you back. Courage is the not-so-secret recipe for success in my opinion.
What do you think? Do you feel that the vast majority of people lack courage and are filled with fear? Let me know through any of my social media platforms, or alternatively, comment on the article below.
Thank you for reading. See you on the next one.
